Yard Sales, Party, Score!

This Saturday morning was devoted to local tag/garage/yard sales.  And I quit before 11 AM.  Enough!
I ended up with a new rug, and I like it a lot.  Since primary colors are my favorites, I just had to get it.
Pretty, right?  And I am throwing my first rug ever out, since it got wet a couple of times, doesn't seem to be colorfast, and has had it.
Then:
glass carafes - I started to collect them for my brother, but by now I think I'm doing well on my own.  Besides, he'll have to come get them.  No more than $2/piece, usually just one dollar.
And every one is different.  The one today has a sailing ship engraved in it.
Okay, this is the towel I'm giving Jessica:
Totally free hand, I cut out the letters without a pattern, just from left-over material.  The top is a 'bunny head', also just free-hand work.  I still have to embroider a face.
and:
Not a very good photo of the dress I'm made her.  I'll do better, when she's wearing it.
So, I'm snapping up the card for the camera, and then I'll be the photographer for the party.

Anyone have any idea what to do about ants?  I sprayed all around the house, but there is still one or two ants coming in and I just don't like it.

Boat Covers and so on

Today we finished the new boat cover for Jim.  Just the original one, not the one to go over that.
he should be happy with that.
I am picking up the kids today.
Matthew has soccer.
I made a beautiful towel for Jessica, pictures when I get home, where my camera is.
I also made her a dress - see photos and camera.
Yes, I did go for my walk today, but a bit later.
The swans still have three cygnets.
I bought 'The girl with the dragon tattoo' again, because I want Erika to read it.
Tomorrow and Sunday I will be attending Jessica's birthday parties.
One for the friends, one for the family.
Now I'm having coffee!

Hot

.... and two weeks ago I was wearing a fleece.  And sorry I didn't have more clothes.
But it's not a complaint.
It's fine.
T-shirt and shorts for my walk this morning.
And still no bear, and the swans still have some babies.
I am worried about the swan babies, since I heard there is supposed to be a rather large snapping turtle in the pond (also read somewhere that every little pond in the Northeast has a snapper in it)
I have seen turtles at the pond.
I do see the blue heron.
He doesn't have a girlfriend.
Oprah is done, coffee is gone,
I'm out of here!

Wednesday

I could make it wordless Wednesday, like another blogger.

Or something else.

Summer is here!  How's that for a switch.  This morning I didn't go for my walk, I had to finish something for Jessica's 6th birthday.  Which I didn't because I took out the serger, and the serger (overlock) has yellow threat in it, and as anyone knows who sews, you don't change the threat if you have something on deck that needs to be sewn with the color that's in the machine.  So I started on another project.

I also woke up at about 2 PM and couldn't go back to sleep.  One of the reasons was that I got the newest Stieg Larsson book - the last one 'girl who kicked a hornets' nest'.  I'm at the very beginning.  Couldn't wait to get it and delve in, but want to savor it too, the old dilemma with a favorite author.

I called Jessica for her birthday.  She let me sing the whole 'happy birthday' song, and we chatted.  She got to pick who gets picked up first (her), and she told me  we'd be having macaroni and cheese tonight, since that's what she picked for her birthday.  With corn.  Do you see those colors on your plate?!  Well, a six-year old picked them.
I made her 4 sunhats, and she'll get a matching dress at her birthday party on Sunday (see changing thread).

Okay, I know, make photos.  Jessica is wearing one of the hats I made in the post before last.
And I will take pictures, I promise.

Changing from ... to

Thirty years ago today at 8:30 AM the doorbell rang.  When I saw the two people standing in front of me, I knew.
I had no idea how my life would change, I just knew I wanted to hold on to everything I knew.  And tried to pretend nothing had changed.  Of course it did.  It was a gorgeous, beautiful day, much like this year, the weather balmy and summery without it being overwhelming, as it can be a lot.
As you read this, please remember that it is a long time ago, I'm fine, the kids are fine, and there is no pain associated with the telling.  And I will not relive the next few days, just get it done in this one time.
I'm the one who told the children that their father wouldn't come home, I'm the one who called his parents, I'm the one who called mine, I considered it my responsibility.
We got it done.  The funeral, the closing the door behind the last visitor, and the new beginning.

And it was fine.
